This week we're chit-chatting with Ryan Lewis, SR Educator, stylist, and all around great guy.
I first met Ryan when he was a student at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica. Between his enthusiasm for his newfound craft, impeccable manners, and his willingness to always jump right in I knew one day he was going to make something of himself and I was right!!!
Ryan is an integral part of the SR Education team. His passion as an educator is evident in the time and care he takes with his students, while still pushing them to be the very best stylists they can be. He's always ready to help out a pal and his fantastic sense of humor ensures there's never a dull moment when he's around.
Ryan will be hitting the road this summer teaching classes with me in Madison, Nashville, Petaluma, and more. Be sure to take a class with him. I promise you won't regret it!
Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the hair industry?
I'm originally from Denver, CO. I first started doing hair back in high school, cutting my friends' hair and bleaching their tips. I figured out pretty early on it was something I genuinely loved to do. I went to cosmetology school (where I met Sally!) and have been doing hair professionally for about 15 years...and I have to say I am more in love with my career now, then when I first started. Over the years I have been an ambassador for TiGi and a network educator for Bumble and Bumble, but I have really found my home in education with Sally. If I am not doing hair, I am taking pictures, playing golf, or hanging out with my Boston Terrier named Frank.
How did you become an S•R Educator?
I met Sally in 2002 when I was attending the Sassoon Academy. Over the years I was invited back to speak to the graduating classes and would run into Sally. In 2015 I took over the education program at Saulino Smith Salon and found myself needing one of my first mentors again. I was running into the same problems over and over and decided it was time to improve my teaching technique. The S•R Education Program was exactly what I and the salon needed. So when Sally asked me to join the S•R Education team I jumped on board!
What is your favorite part of being an S•R Educator?
My favorite part is without a doubt meeting so many unique hairdressers that are so passionate about wanting to perfect their craft.
What is your favorite S•R Education memory?
It has to be traveling with the S•R Education team for the first time. I never knew what it was like to fly with people who have so many frequent flyer miles. They knew every trick in the book to make flying more efficient. I'm pretty sure Sally was already sitting on the plane, while I was still taking my shoes off for TSA.
