Spotlight on Educators: Kristen Henry

Meet Kristen!

S•R Educators are such an integral part of the S•R Education Program. My team is the absolute best! I thought it would be fun to let them introduce themselves starting with the absolutely amazing Kristen Henry!

I first met Kristen when I was the Senior Creative Directer at the Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica. And let me tell you, she was a superstar from day one.

She has always amazed me with her talent and skill, but more than that she is always perfectly prepared for every single class. I admire her professional attitude, drive, and super high standards. She is a great educator,  leader, and champion of the S•R Education Program. She believes in developing quality education for all just as much as I do!

Kristen will be out on the road heading up classes for me in Chicago, Petaluma, Reading and more.  Go take a class with her...I promise you won't regret it!

Tell us a little about your background/how did you get into the hair industry?

I've been in the industry for almost 17 years. I started at 18, right out of high school. I was always more creatively inclined and gravitated towards building and styling things with my hands. Hair just felt like a perfect fit. I started educating for Toni & Guy about a year out of cosmetology school where I was an ambassador and focused on product knowledge and hairstyling. That experience helped me develop my teaching style and become comfortable presenting in front of a group. After that I then moved on to teach for L'Oreal Professionnel. There, I was a national Artist and a national Train the Trainer. During this time I also taught in-salon haircutting and coloring seminars, as well as trained other L'Oreal Artists to teach the company's biannual collections.

How did you become an SR Educator?

In 2007, while working at the Bellus Academy in southern California as their lead haircutting instructor, I was sent to the Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica for teacher training and met Sally. She worked with me extensively on how to properly lecture and demonstrate haircuts. In 2012 when Sally decided to expand S•R Education and bring on additional educators I jumped at the chance to be part of the team. She has been my greatest mentor and I'm both thrilled and honored to represent her company.

What is your favorite part of being an SR Educator?

I love being able to teach a haircutting system I believe in, while working with like-minded hairdressers. I know how effective our cutting system is and being able to share it with other hairdressers is extremely rewarding.

What is your favorite SR Education memory?

My favorite memories have been seeing the hairdressers taking our seminars get excited about the haircuts they produce during our hands-on workshops and the pride they feel in their accomplishments. There's nothing better!
